Summary
One of the business survival strategies involves buying or selling, in whole or in part, company equities or assets. What do business buyers and sellers look for in such a transaction?  How can you better prepare your organizations for it?  In transactions that involve intellectual property, what additional information and assistance do you usually need? Our speaker plans to share the global best practices on merger/acquisition and how Big Data could be used advantageously to implement IP strategies pre- or post-M&A.

Speaker’s Bio:
Mr. Poh Chua is a highly sought after multi-lingual attorney and partner with Lee and Hayes, and currently works with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co Ltd. advising the Chairman and the Board of Directors of this Global 500 Company on matters regarding intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, integration of newly acquired subsidiaries, and investment in new technologies.  He has been involved in high-value legal matters, particularly international dispute resolution and major transactions.  As Chief IP Counsel, he manages relationships with key IP partners and provides IP acquisition and utilization strategies.

Prior to Geely, Mr. Chua was the General Counsel for TCL Multimedia, a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and the General Counsel and Chief IP Counsel for TCL’s largest operating subsidiary, TTE Corporation.  There he oversaw an extensive scope of legal matters involving antitrust, bankruptcy, compliance of stock exchange rules, copyright, criminal investigation, employment, environmental, insurance, joint venture, patents, products liability, trademarks, and warranty.  Poh supervised in-house and outside counsel in global litigation, arbitration, mediation, IP enforcement and defense matters. He also negotiated complex agreements, including IP licensing, sale and purchase of assets, and dispute resolution.  Before then, Poh also worked in large US-based international law firms primarily on intellectual property matters, and provided strategic guidance to clients on a range of management issues.

Poh had his Science and Mathematics training from the Royal Military College in Malaysia.  He received his BS degree in Civil Engineering (magna cum laude) and JD degree (with honors) from George Washington University.  He has been invited to speak at many IP-related conferences, and is the Executive Managing Editor, Journal of International Law and Economics.  Poh is also the President of DC Gamma of the Tau Beta Pi Society, and a  Board Member of the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association of Greater Washington.  Mr. Chua is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the State of New York, and registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
