ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt Course

By the American Society for Quality, Washington DC and Maryland Metro Section 509 and the Project Management Institute, Silver Spring Chapter. 

The Washington DC and Maryland Metro Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ Section 509) and the Silver Spring Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) are conducting a refresher class intended to assist qualified individuals in preparing to take the upcoming ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) Exam administered by the American Society for Quality during December 1 -17, 2016.

Course Format: In person, four-day, boot camp style class, 32 hours total.

Dates: The course will begin on Thursday, November 10, 2016 with a mandatory one-hour introductory online session and then run Monday, November 14 through Thursday, November 17, 2016. It will consist of four, eight-hour sessions from 9 AM to 5:30 PM EST with a 30-minute lunch break, for a total of 32 hours. Lunch will be provided.

Actual class dates are:
•    November 14, 15, 16, and 17, 2016.

Refresher Course Tuition: $1,799 regular price. Registrations received by November 1, 2016, save 50% and pay only $899!

Certificate of Completion: You must successfully complete the entire course before Recertification Units and/or PDUs and a Certificate of Completion can be awarded by the instructor.

Course Registration and Information: After registration, you will receive a course confirmation receipt. At least 2 days prior to the online introduction on November 10, you will receive an email containing course participation details. Course Cancellation: If the minimum number of students (5) has not registered by October 31, 2016, the class will be cancelled. If that occurs, you be contacted and your tuition refunded.

Instructors:
Ronald J. Kelley, PhD, ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt
Ronald Kelley is a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) with over 25 years of experience in quality, business management, and operations. He has been a member of ASQ 509's Executive Board for the past five years and currently serves as Chair of the section.  He is also past Chair of the ASQ 509’s Lean Six Sigma Special Interest Group. Dr. Kelley has a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and is a Motorola and ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. During his career he led Lean and Six Sigma projects at large and small companies. He has worked on manufacturing as well as transactional projects in the areas of technology, R&D, manufacturing, finance, and sales. At Motorola, he mentored and trained Black Belt and Green Belt candidates in locations across the globe including Brazil, Israel, and the US.  Later, he founded a successful technology startup company, Gecko Energy Technologies, Inc., that utilized Six Sigma tools to develop intellectual property, innovative products, and processes.  Currently Ron is President and Founder of Green Gap Solutions, LLC.
Donald Duggins, LSS Master Black Belt
Mr. Duggins is President/CEO/Founder of Aspire Consulting Services, LLC, a Maryland-based Industrial & Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Management and Organizational Science company. Mr. Duggins provides project management and advisory support to government and private industry in relation to enterprise transformation, international economic development, human capital management, and supply chain management. Mr. Duggins is a senior strategy and operations management consultant with over 26 years professional experience and a strong background in ISE/OR. He holds a BS/ISE from North Carolina A&T State University and performed his MS/ISE work at Purdue University and has applied these methods in a broad range of industries. Examples of his current or past clients include: the U.S. General Services Administration, Grant Thornton LLP, U.S. Army Office of the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Auditor General's Office, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Prince George’s Community College and University of Maryland University College. Prior to founding Aspire Consulting Services, LLC, Mr. Duggins held senior roles in business transformation, operations, and engineering for Fortune 500 organizations in the consulting (Accenture LLP), logistics (UTi Worldwide, Inc.), and automotive (Ford Motor Co.) sectors and served his country honorably as a Marine Aviation Logistics Officer for the U.S. Marine Corps.
Kevin King, ASQ CMQ/OE, CQA, Six Sigma Black Belt
Mr. King is the Quality Manager at Wright Manufacturing, where he has designed and implemented their quality system. He has over 25 years experience in process improvement and quality systems. Mr. King has been a member of the American Society for Quality since 2011 and is a Six Sigma Black Belt, Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence and Certified Quality Auditor. Mr. King currently serves as ASQ Section 509's Professional Development Committee Chair.

Course Text, Information, and Topics
Course Materials: We will be using certification materials from the Quality Council of Indiana.  The following materials for the course WILL be supplied:
•    Certified Six Sigma Green Belt Primer
•    Certified Six Sigma Green Belt Solutions

The following materials for the course WILL NOT be supplied:
•    Certified Six Sigma Green Belt Exam CD: $70 (Not required but is highly recommended)

Pre-Class Work: Students need to complete the reading and answer the questions in sections I, II, and III of the “Primer” before the first full class meeting on November 14, 2016.
Course Approach: We will begin by reviewing the list of topics in the CSSGB Body of Knowledge and the level at which each topic will be tested. Each class will consist of a review of sample questions, accompanied by more detailed focus on selected qualitative and quantitative areas according to the needs of the participants.

•    Six Sigma Improvement Methodology and Tools – Measure: Capability & Measurement
•    Six Sigma Improvement Methodology and Tools – Analyze
•    Six Sigma Improvement Methodology and Tools – Improvement Techniques
•    Six Sigma Improvement Methodology and Tools – Control Concepts

Note: This is a “refresher” course in six sigma principles and practices. Participants are expected to have a general working knowledge of the topics listed above.

Six Sigma Green Belt Exam Information
Exam Date: December 1 – 17, 2016
Application deadline is November 4, 2016
Location: Various locations throughout the area to be discussed in class. See Prometric for location details.
Exam Application: An application form and more information on the certification process may be obtained from ASQ online at http://asq.org/cert/six-sigma-green-belt.
ASQ CSSGB Cost: $438 for non-members and $288 for members.  Join ASQ and save!  Exam applicants are responsible for meeting ASQs certification requirements. 
Exam Information: Each certification candidate is required to pass a written examination that consists of multiple choice questions that measure comprehension of the Body of Knowledge. The Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is a four-hour, 100 multiple-choice question examination. It is offered in the English language only.
Examinations are conducted throughout the year and are delivered via computer based testing (CBT) through ASQ's testing partner Prometric. All examinations are open-book. Each participant must bring his or her own reference materials. Use of reference materials and calculators is explained in the FAQ.

Qualifications for the CSSGB:
Required Experience
Six Sigma Green Belts are employees who spend some of their time on process improvement teams. They analyze and solve quality problems, and are involved with Six Sigma, lean or other quality improvement projects. The Six Sigma Green Belt certification requires three years of work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge. Work experience must be in a full time, paid role. Paid intern, co-op or any other course work cannot be applied towards the work experience requirement. Educational waivers are not granted.

If you need to cancel your registration or withdraw from the course, we will refund your paid registration fee as noted below:

1. Requests for cancellations/withdrawal received by October 24, 2016 receive a full refund.

2. Requests received after October 24, 2016 will incur a 25% processing fee.

3. There are no refunds past October 30, 2016.
