Driving directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb’s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor of 7529 Building with its external entrance opposite to the left side of 7519 building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from “Calhoun Place” stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.

Summary 
Palliative Medicine is a relatively new medical specialty, which focuses on maintaining the quality of life at any stage of a serious illness.  In this presentation, Dr. Cheng will discuss topics such as the whole-person approach offered by a palliative care team, aligning treatment to personal goals and values, symptom management, and the role of hospice services in the Palliative Care continuum.   
       
Honing in on the local community level, we will discuss the main area of intersection between Palliative Medicine and Primary Care.  Dr. Chow will share his experience as a Primary Care Physician collaborating with hospice services in providing end of life care for his patients in the local community.

2.       Why involve Palliative Medicine in caring for the seriously ill?
3.       Truths and myths about Hospice services
4.       Partnership between Primary Care and Palliative Care

Speakers’ Bios: 
Mo-Ping Chow, MD, MRCP, FACP was born in Hong Kong and graduated from Taiwan (National Defense Medical Center).  He immigrated to the US and completed Internal Medicine Residency training at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in 1997.  Dr. Chow began solo practice in Gaithersburg as a Primary Care Physician since 1998.  He was the past Medical Director of Pan Asian Volunteer Health Clinic, and currently is a board member on the Chinese Culture and Community Service center (CCACC) Health Advisory Board. 

M. Jennifer Cheng, MD currently holds the position of senior attending physician at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center, Pain and Palliative Care Division, serving patients with serious illness and providing educational programs for the community.  She is also the associate program director of the NIH hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program. She is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Care and Internal Medicine. Dr. Cheng’s area of interest includes the use of palliative medicine in the Asian population and cancer survivorship care.
