Presentation Overview: Cyber Security in Government and the Private Sector
“Cyber Security in Government and the Private  Sector ” is about the growth we have seen in tools available to secure our computer information,  and the growth in high level exploitations of our computer systems. Recent threats have increased, and bad actors have become more sophisticated. With our data distributed across multiple locations and outside our organizations, being able to stop threats quickly has become even more challenging.

While our computer information can never be 100% secure, we need to know the critical steps we can take to ensure effective and mature risk management programs. This introductory presentation will show how to get on track by implementing a roadmap of fundamental cyber security controls. The focus will be on those defensive steps which have the greatest value.

These Critical Security Controls (CSC) will give us the ability to prevent, alert and respond to attacks that have been in the news of late. Although these CSC are not a replacement for comprehensive mandatory compliance or regulatory actions, they do help us focus on controls with a high payoff, and promote a “Must-do” protection philosophy.

The information to be presented is compiled from recent works by the Center of Internet Security (www.cisecurit.org), SANS (www.Sans.org), NIST (www.NIST.gov), and the Council on Cyber Security (www.counciloncybersecurity.com).
