Nuclear Quality Assurance: A Perspective from the Inside
With few exceptions the nuclear industry has a long history of designing, constructing, operating, and decommissioning nuclear facilities. That in many ways is due to the nuclear QA standard known today as NQA-1. With its roots going back as far as  Admiral Rickovers naval propulsion program in the early 1950s, NQA-1 and its predecessors have provided for the safe and reliable operation of commercial nuclear power plants in the U.S. and throughout the world. NQA-1 is also being used at every major Department of Energy location and laboratory dealing with nuclear waste or nuclear related research and development.

This presentation will focus on the 18 criteria that make up the NQA-1 standard today, and how NQA-1 compares to other international nuclear standards such as IAEA and quality system standards such as ISO 9001. The presentation will also examine some things to think about for those who might be looking at entering the nuclear industry, whether as an individual or as a business from an implementation perspective.
