Driving Directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb�s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor of 7529 Building with its external entrance opposite to the left side of 7519 building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from �Calhoun Place� stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.

Summary 
Tuberculosis (TB) is an ancient disease but still a serious public health threat in the modern era. One-third of the world's population is thought to be infected with TB. In 2014, there were 9.6 million cases of active TB which resulted in 1.5 million deaths. More than 95% of deaths occurred in developing countries. TB control has important implications not only for infectious diseases but also for the non-communicable diseases. It also exemplifies the evidence-based public health approach and the importance of political commitment. 

In the U.S., the report of TB new cases has reached the lowest level histologically, but this is not the case in the rest of the world. Therefore, a joint effort is urgently needed in order to eliminate this devastating disease. In this presentation, Dr. Bao will describe TB history, diagnosis, and treatment advances, with an emphasis on TB epidemics, challenges and strategies of TB control, and clinical research management in both the US and China. 

Speaker�s Bio: 
Jing has worked in the National Cancer Institute, National Mental Health Institute, and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for the past 14 years. She provides management and leadership to HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis international clinical research projects that take place in over 10 countries including South Africa, Malawi, Peru, Kenya, Zambia, Haiti, Zimbabwe, India, Uganda, and Brazil in the fields of.  Jing has traveled and given presentations in international conferences in countries such as Ghana, South Africa, Israel, Brazil, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, England, France, and many cities in China on the topics such as cancer research, infectious diseases, scientist administration, clinical trials, partnerships, and global health initiatives. Jing has received many awards for her professional achievements in basic research, clinical work, and scientific administration from China, Israel, and the U.S. She has published in many peer reviewed journals. Her experience in basic and clinical research, health care and systems, and scientific administration has enabled her to envision and promote innovative and non-traditional enterprises. 

Prior to coming to the U.S., Jing earned a PhD in cancer research in Israel and served as a Medical Director in two hospitals in China. Her personal journey, from a physician to cancer researcher to overseeing U.S. government sponsored basis and clinical research projects has exposed her to both the benefit of diversity and to the obstacles that must be overcome. She appreciates the entire spectrum of challenges and opportunities of American immigrants especially for women. Jing has written and published articles, essays, and books to promote global understanding and culture integration. She serves as the Chair for the Washington DC Chapter of the American Woman for International Understanding. She is also the member of the Asian American Government Executives Network (www.AAGEN.org) and the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (www.FAPAC.org).
