Cyber threat intelligence sharing improves enterprise security and threat awareness, and can be automated with the use of STIX and TAXII.

Cyber threat sharing is the practice of sharing cyber threat intelligence, vulnerabilities, configurations, best practices and tips to a larger external community. Both your organization and the entire community can benefit from increased awareness and cyber security by participating in this type of inter-organizational network. Cyber threat sharing promotes participants from a reactive cyber security state to a proactive and preventive one. However, such defensive capabilities are often hard to actualize due to technical as well as organizational obstacles. We present technologies (STIX, TAXII) and organizational best practices to aid your organization in establishing cyber threat sharing relationships.

Chris J. Lenk is a Cyber Security Engineer at the MITRE Corporation, where he works as a key developer of the STIX standard. His work on STIX includes cyber threat data modeling and development of the STIX software libraries, tools and plugins. Chris has degrees in computer science and information assurance.

Michael B. Kouremetis is a Cyber Security Engineer at the MITRE Corporation, where he helps build cyber threat data models (STIX, MAEC) and cyber security tools (for analysts). Previously Michael has worked in cyber threat intelligence, network security, and software engineering. He has degrees in computer science.
