Driving directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb�s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor of 7529 Building with its external entrance opposite to the left side of 7519 building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from �Calhoun Place� stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.
Summary
Dr. Jerry SH Lee, Deputy Director for Cancer Research and Technology will share how the Cancer Moonshot Task Force under Vice President Biden is unleashing the power of data to help to end cancer as we know it. Dr. Lee will discuss global efforts inspired by the Cancer Moonshot that will empower artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning for oncology with larger and more accessible datasets. He also plans to include some commentary on career paths.
Speaker�s Bio
Jerry S.H. Lee, PhD is the Deputy Director for Cancer Research and Technology for the Cancer Moonshot Task Force. Prior to this role, he has spent the last decade in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Office of the Director developing and implementing over a dozen large-scale advanced technology initiatives as the Deputy Director of NCI�s Center for Strategic Scientific Initiatives.
Prior to joining the NCI, his research involved elucidating mechanisms of age-related diseases and has co-authored over twenty papers, five book chapters, and one book. He continues his research as an adjunct associate professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he also earned his bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and PhD in chemical and biomolecular engineering.
Dr. Lee also holds an appointment at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center and collaborates with clinicians on next generation patient-centered outcomes research. He is a member of the Innovation Policy Forum of the National Academies Board on Science, Technology, and Economic Policy; the Foundation for the NIH's Biomarkers' Consortium's Cancer Steering Committee, the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute's Board of Trustees; and the editorial board of the Convergence Science Physical Oncology journal.
