In celebration of National Quality Month, the Philadelphia Section of ASQ and the Engineering Division of Penn State Great Valley are proud to once again sponsor a symposium on statistical methods useful to quality practitioners. This year’s theme is Statistical Thinking and Quality. The aim is to give attendees some useful facts and tools that can translate readily into practice.
The format is a plenary keynote session followed by two parallel sessions.
Our Keynote Speaker
We are most fortunate to have Dr. Ronald D. Snee as this year’s Keynote Speaker. Ron is a Principal in Tunnell Consulting's Performance Excellence Practice. His talk is entitled “Accepting Shewhart’s Challenge-Developing Statistically Minded Leaders.” He will discuss the importance and benefits of creating a statistically-minded generation of physicists, chemists, engineers, and others. Dr. Snee is an internationally recognized leader in innovative Six Sigma applications. He has authored three books dealing with aspects of Six Sigma and has published over 150 journal articles. Ron is a winner of ASQ’s Shewhart and Grant Medals and an ASQ Fellow.
Session I: Quality Tools
Hesham Fahmy, Project Statistician, Merck Manufacturing Division will presentControl Charts: Beyond Process Monitoring. Hesham will discuss some of the basic and advanced concepts of control charting techniques.
Paul Lupinacci, Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at Villanova University will present A Class of Partially Replicated 2-Level Fractional Factorial Designs. Paul will describe recent work in developing experimental plans that offer advantages over the usual unreplicated fractional factorial experiments.
Session II: Quality Practice and Reliability
Jerry Jordan, Director of Six Sigma for Lyondell Chemical will presentSix Sigma Implementation: Lessons Learned. Jerry’s talk will focus on challenges of implementing Six Sigma at a medium size international chemical company.
John I. McCool Professor of System Engineering, Penn State Great Valley will present An Introduction to the Weibull Distribution and Some Recent Results. John will highlight the properties of and motivation for the use of the Weibull Distribution and discuss two relatively new examples of Weibull inference.
