Program Summary:
Six Sigma is an often-utilized methodology throughout industry in order to improve quality, enhance customer satisfaction, and to reduce costs. However, organizations embarking on a Six Sigma initiative often eventually lose momentum due to insufficient buy-in at the mid-management level and the perception that the effort is simply another temporary program. Those who recognize the critical tenets of continuous improvement understand the strategic significance that the Six Sigma methodology brings to an entity and the importance of institutionalizing Six Sigma thinking throughout the organization, so that it becomes part of the normal way of operating. However, from a six sigma perspective, how are government and private industries different and how are they similar? What are the challenges to institutionalizing Six Sigma in these different industries? What have we observed, in terms of best practices in each industry, to facilitate Six Sigma becoming a part of the organizations modus operandi? Lee Winters, Director of Spectrum Consulting, LLC, and our speaker for the September 2009 SIG meeting, will give us greater insight into these questions and more!
