ASQ Section 509 is offering a refresher course for quality management professionals who want to prepare for the Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence Certification Exam administered by the American Society for Quality. The CMQ/QE Body of Knowledge will be reviewed and participants will be given a sample exam at the beginning of the course. This will help them identify topics they should concentrate on as they prepare for the actual exam. Levels of cognition will be reviewed and their use in defining the intended complexity of multiple choice test questions will be explained. Main topics include: Leadership; Strategic Plan Development and Deployment; Management Elements and Methods; Quality Management Tools; Customer-Focused Organizations; Supply Chain Management; and Training and Development. A sample constructed-response problem will be reviewed and students will write short essays on similar open-ended questions. Exam structure and procedures will be explained in the last class before the exam.
Location: Prince George's Community College (PGCC), Main Campus, Largo, MD
Dates: January 11, 13, 20, 25, 27, February 3, 10, 17, 24, March 3. January 11 and 25 are Mondays. The other dates are all Wednesdays
Time: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm, room to be announced.
Tuition: $375 plus $7 registration fee payable to Prince George's Community College.
Credit: PGCC will award 2.5 CEU for successful completion (attendance is 80% or more) of the course.
Registration Information
On-line: Go to http://www.pgcc.edu/. Click on "Owl Link" and then to Continuing Education. Click on Workforce Development & Continuing Ed Students. Select Register for Noncredit Course(s). Fill in the Course Code Number only: MGT-336 and SUBMIT. Check the box for MGT-336 and SUBMIT. Complete the Student Profile form, all the items marked with red asterisk, plus first name (it will come back for more information if there is someone with the same last name in the system), and check certification statement at the bottom. Complete the Additional Registration Information (answer all 3 with something). Complete the Pay for Classes form and SUBMIT.
In Person: Mon-Thu 8:30 am - 8:00 pm or Fri 8:30-5:00 pm in Bladen Hall, Room 126 on the Main Campus in Largo, MD. You can register in person up to the day before class begins.

Instructors: Joe Ludford and Tony Ingelido, ASQ Section 509.
Mr. Ludford has 48 years of technical and management experience in the product assurance and systems engineering fields. His most recent experience includes implementing an ISO 9001 quality system in a defense contractor environment, performing quality system audits at NASA contractor facilities, and teaching quality improvement techniques at a government facility. Mr. Ludford taught quality assurance and total quality management courses as an Adjunct Professor at Prince George's Community College in the 1990s. He is retired from Computer Sciences Corporation, and is the principal of White Hart Associates, for which he has provided consulting services in quality assurance and process improvement since 1997. Mr. Ludford is a Senior Member of ASQ, and a past chair and education chair of the Washington, DC-Maryland Metro Section. He is a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence by ASQ, and has 4 other ASQ certifications.
Mr. Ingelido has over 21 years of technical and management experience in process improvement and quality systems development within the public and private sector. His most recent experience includes implementing a CMMI ML 3 QMS for an IT support services firm in the DC area. He has also implemented ISO 9001 for several organizations and has used the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) framework to establish business systems that have been externally validated against the model. He is a three term MBNQA examiner (2006 through 2008) and holds a variety of certifications including the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt by ASQ, Project Management Professional (PMP) by PMI, and Certified Manufacturing Technologist by SME. He has served in various roles for the Washington DC section of ASQ including section Chair in 2001. He has trained over 2500 students in quality principles, leadership, team facilitation , auditing and other managerial and technical courses most recently having developed and delivered a four-day service quality course for the UMBC Erickson School of Aging Studies where he is an Executive Education Fellow.

CMQ/OE Exam Information
Date: Saturday, March 6, 2010. Exam Application deadline is January 15, 2010.
Location/Time: Exam location is in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC. Applicants will be notified of location and time by National ASQ.
Application: Application for the exam is done directly with ASQ National (http://www.asq.org/certification/apply.html). Application must be done on-line or by mail and postmarked no later than the deadline (January 15).
Exam Cost: $450 for non-members, $300 for members. Can apply and join ASQ at same time.
Education/Experience Requirement: Ten years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence Body of Knowledge. A minimum of five years of this experience must be in a decision-making position. If you have a degree from a college, university, or technical school with accreditation accepted by ASQ, part of the experience requirement may be waived. Exam applicants are responsible for meeting ASQ’s certification requirements. Check ASQ National website (http://www.asq.org/certification/).
