Driving directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb�s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor with its entrance opposite to the left side of building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from �Calhoun Place� stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.
Summary:
The speaker will talk about his career as a senior medical staff in both NIH and FDA for 30 years � the mission, the job, his experience as a drug regulator, how he has enjoyed the work, and why he has stayed for so long.
Dr. Chen plans also to provide career advice to individuals with interest in public services, drug development, and drug regulations.
Presenter�s Bio:
Dr. Shaw-Tsen Chen, MD, PhD retired from FDA on February 28, 2014. His last job there was the Deputy Office Director, Office of Drug Evaluation � IV (ODE-IV) in the Office of New Drug (OND), CDER, FDA. He also served as the leader of Botanic Review Team (BRT). Dr. Chen started his FDA career in 1987 and was a medical officer/team leader in the Division of Cardio-renal Drug Products prior to his BRT assignment. In addition to his roles as the Deputy ODE Director managing the two OTC Divisions and Division of Medical Imaging Products (DMIP), Dr. Chen was responsible for drafting/implementing FDA guidance/process for botanical drug products. Dr. Chen is a graduate of National Taiwan University (BS), John Hopkins University (PhD), and University of Miami (MD). He received post-doctoral training in basic science at John Hopkins and Yale Universities; he did pediatric residency/clinical fellowship at University of Minnesota and National Institute of Health. He is a member of Chinese American Professionals Association (CAPA). Dr. Chen is moving to California in the middle of March; he can be reached by email at .
