Driving directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb�s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor with its entrance opposite to the left side of building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from �Calhoun Place� stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.

Summary:  
The speaker will focus on the value of education and how parental commitment to education is pivotal to success.  The presentation will include comparisons of responsibilities, challenges and rewards in academia, private industry and government.  Finally, the speaker will outline the contributions of toxicology to drug development and achievements of global harmonization and related challenges.

(Note from the SIG Chair: We thank Dr. Jacobson-Kram for his life-time contribution to the advancement in toxicology and global harmonization of nonclinical assessment for biomedical products.)

Presenter�s Bio: 
Dr. David Jacobson-Kram received his PhD in embryology from the University of Connecticut; he then went on to serve as a staff fellow at the National Institute on Aging.   After leaving NIH, Dr. Jacobson-Kram joined the faculty of George Washington University School of Medicine and then later, Johns Hopkins University Oncology Center.  During this same period he served, on a part-time basis, as a geneticist in the Office of Toxic Substances at the Environmental Protection Agency and as Acting Branch Chief in EPA's Office of Research and Development.  

Dr. Jacobson-Kram served as the VP of the Toxicology and Laboratory Animal Health Division at BioReliance Corporation, a contract testing laboratory from 1988 until 2003.  From 2003 through 2014 he served as the Associate Director of Pharmacology and Toxicology in FDA�s Office of New Drugs.  Over the past thirty years he has served as principal and co-principal investigator on several NIH grants and government contracts and published in the areas of genetic and molecular toxicology.

Dr. Jacobson-Kram has served as council member, treasurer and chairman of the Genetic Toxicology Association, executive council member to the Environmental Mutagen Society, Editor of Cell Biology and Toxicology, and as a member of NIH special study sections.  In 1996 he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT).

Dr. Jacobson-Kram will retire on April 1, 2014.
