Driving directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb�s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor with its entrance opposite to the left side of building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from �Calhoun Place� stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.
Summary:
Susan will provide an introduction to copyrights, explain how copyrights are protected in the U.S. and internationally, detail the benefits of U.S. registration, outline several of the limitations and exceptions to copyright, and discuss some of the challenges to copyright in the digital age.
You will come away with a better idea of how to protect your copyrighted works as well as how to properly and legally use others' copyrighted works. Come ready to challenge Susan and each other with your toughest copyright challenges! Susan promises that no one will go home hungry (at least not for copyright information) or unhappy (at least not with Susan's level of information).
Presenter�s Bio:
Susan Anthony is an attorney-advisor in the Global Intellectual Property Academy (GIPA), in the Office of Policy and International Affairs (OPIA), United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Alexandria, Virginia.
Susan handles policy matters relating to copyright, trademark, and domain name issues within the U.S. and internationally and has a broad range of experience and expertise in almost all facets of intellectual property protection and enforcement. Within GIPA, Susan heads up the USPTO�s educational outreach initiative for US small- to medium-sized businesses (US SMEs), focused on helping small businesses and student entrepreneurs to protect and enforce their intellectual property rights. She also is a member of the USPTO China Team and the USPTO Africa Team.
