presentation slides

The speaker recently participated in an experiment that employed a rules engine to implement certain key requirements for a large IT system undergoing modernization. This experiment first sought to determine the feasibility of one such solution, Red Hat BRMS, to meet functional requirements. The experiment went on to characterize operational aspects of the solution such as usability, performance, scalability, fault tolerance, security, and configuration management.

This presentation will provide an overview of the experiment, its goals and the results that were obtained. It will then cover broader recommendations on when a rules engine might be appropriate for other projects, and best practices for use of a rules engine once it is determined it is an appropriate solution for a given problem.
