Driving directions: By Cars: From I-270 (N or S bound): Take Exit 9A and exit from the FIRST right exit; turn left (east) onto Shady Grove Dr.; turn right (south) onto Rockville Pike (Route 355); turn left (east) onto East Gude Dr.; turn left (north) immediately onto Crabb�s Branch Dr.; turn left (west) immediately onto Standish Place. The first building on your right side is 7519 Standish Place; open parking). The venue is on the first floor with its entrance opposite to the left side of building main entrance. By Metro trains: Off from Red Line Shady Grove Station, and take RideOn Route 59 TOWARD ROCKVILLE and get off from �Calhoun Place� stop. Standish Place is next to the Bus stop. Our venue is within 2 min of walking distance from the stop.
Summary
Everyone needs to hear well! Whether it's for safety reasons, relationships, or to do your best at work or school; good hearing is essential. Our speaker will focus on hearing loss prevention and modern hearing aids technology. The following specifics will be discussed:
� Causes of hearing loss, and what are the Do's and Don'ts.
� What is tinnitus (ringing in ears) and how to management it?
� What about tips to parents regarding their children?
� What are the effects of iPod etc.? How loud is too loud?
� What are the misconceptions on healthy hearing?
� Why you should not put Q-tips into your ears?
� What are hearing aids? What are their basic components?
� How hearing aids manage listening difficulties? Such as inaudibility in high frequencies, feedback problems, sudden sound-environment changes, wind noise, noisy environment, high ambient noise, poor telephone quality, etc., and
� The use of short communication technology.
Speaker�s Bio:
Dr. Wendy Shiau is the audiologist at WS Audiology Services. She had over 20 peer reviewed scientific publications while at the academic setting. Her expertise is in hearing diagnostics and hearing aids selection/fitting. Dr. Shiau also has unique expertise in electrophysiological measures gained through her graduate studies. She graduated with MS and PhD degrees from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio
Dr. Shiau has been in practicing audiology in the Metropolitan Washington, DC for over 10 years. She works with patients of all ages for their hearing needs, and truly desires to help hear-impaired patients to live a quality life enjoying the sounds and experiences that they have been missed. She enjoys giving presentations to her peers and to the communities on topics related to hearing health and related technology.
Dr. Shiau is a Fellow of American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and American Speech-Hearing Association (ASHA). Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering in community, hiking, and trying new adventures.
